The community gains a rare opportunity to get a deeper understanding of dementia
Heritage Woods hosted "The Dementia Experience," a unique training program designed to simulate the daily challenges faced by individuals living with dementia. This free event offered the community a rare opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of dementia through an interactive, hands-on approach. With the recent FDA approval of donanemab (Kisunla) for early symptomatic Alzheimer’s, we are seeing significant advancements in treatment. Now more than ever, it is crucial to continue spreading awareness and fostering empathy for those living with dementia.
The Dementia Experience is a powerful and educational, 30-minute interactive training experience using sensory modifications. Participants will engage in typical daily activities while encountering what it feels like to live with dementia. Specifically, the training helps caretakers, first responders, family, friends, and the community engage in the experience of living with dementia. The free training will include experiencing constrained fingers, occluded hearing and sight, loud white noise, and simulations while navigating daily activities of living.
